When her editors lobbed a routine tennis assignment her way,
Tacoma News-Tribune intern
Amber Kuehn slammed home a winner. The assignment was the Pacific Northwest Open at the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club.
The story was about a surprise first-time doubles team featuring Pat Galbraith, once ranked No. 1 in the world, and his nephew, Joe. That's Pat on the right in the Peter Haley's photo. "It was a front-page centerpiece," Amber wrote this week. "My editors told me it was the biggest story an intern has ever found at this annual tennis tournament."
Meanwhile, down in Portland, Ore., sports intern
Patrick Gruhler is enjoying his stint as a writer for the weekly
Portland Observer. He's covered subjects ranging from
Portland Tailblazers No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden to the angst on the local Little League diamonds. Pat said writing a weekly column has been the summer's biggest challenge -- and the most fun.
